Diplomatic/Service Visa is for Diplomatic/Official passport holders visiting Indonesia to conduct government business, diplomatic posting, or special assignments in Indonesia.

{tab Requirements}

  1. A completed and signed application form.
  2. One recent coloured passport-sized photograph glued to the front page of the application form.
  3. A passport with at least 6 months’ validity from the date of entry into Indonesia and has at least 3 blank pages for visa.
  4. For a diplomatic posting, passport must be valid at least 18 months before entry to Indonesia.
  5. Diplomatic Note from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia (for Australian officials).
  6. Diplomatic Note from the Embassy/High Commission based in Australia (for non-Australian officials).
  7. Diplomatic note from respective diplomatic consular mission in Indonesia.
  8. Letter of invitation/recommendation from an institution in Indonesia.
  9. Accreditation approval note from the Directorate of Diplomatic Facilities, MoFA Indonesia, for posting a military/police officer in Indonesia.
  10. A copy of two-way/ingoing and outgoing tickets.
  11. Marriage certificate (for spouse).
  12. Applicants under 18 years of age are required to provide:

  1. For a single entry official/diplomatic visa, the processing time is minimum 5 working days after a complete application received, this visa requires approval from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  2. Application for multiple entry official/diplomatic visa, posting, special assignment, or application with ordinary passport, also requires approval from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It takes approximately 1 month for the application to be processed.
  3. The visa is valid if presented within 90 days from the date of issuance.
  4. For posting or special assignment, Embassy will issue a single entry visa. Within 30 days after arrival, the visa holder must report to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Directorate of Consular) to obtain a diplomatic stay permit.
  5. Application for dependent is suggested to be submitted at the same time as the main applicant.

Limited Stay Visa

Limited Stay Visa allows you to stay in Indonesia for a period of time:

  • to work or conduct paid activities
  • as an expert or technical advisor
  • to conduct foreign investment
  • to perform commercial art, cultural, and musical performances
  • to participate in a professional sport competition
  • for production or quality control
  • to inspect or audit a branch office in Indonesia
  • to install or repair machinery
  • to do after-sale services
  • to conduct religious work
  • for commercial film making (with permission from relevant authorities)
  • for medical treatment
  • scientific research and training
  • education
  • family reunion/reunification
  • repatriation
  • retirement

{tab Requirements}

  1. A passport with at least three blank pages, with a minimum 12 month’s validity for 6 month stay; 18 month’s validity for 1 year stay; and 30 month’s validity for 2 year stay.
  2. Completed and signed application form.
  3. One recent coloured passport sized photograph glued to the front page of the application form. Please do not send the photograph loose.
  4. Visa approval/authorisation letter (Telex) from the Indonesian Directorate General of Immigration. 

To obtain visa approval letter, the applicant must have a sponsor (individual or organization) in Indonesia who shall apply for visa at the Immigration Office in Indonesia.

Once the application is approved, a visa approval letter will be sent to the applicant’s sponsor and to the Indonesian Embassy/Consulate.

  1. A letter of recommendation from a sponsor in Indonesia.
  2. A letter of employment from a company/organization in Australia.
  3. A letter from relevant government institution in Indonesia (if applicable).
  4. Evidence of sufficient funds for the intended period of stay in Indonesia (e.g. bank statement or salary slip).
  5. A copy of two-way tickets/ingoing and outgoing flights.
  6. Non-refundable visa fee of AU$ 235, per 1 July 2019. Payment can be made by EFTPOS or credit card at the Indonesian Embassy. For application by mail, payment must be made by Money Order payable to “the Indonesian Embassy”. Cash or cheque will not be accepted.
  7. Application by mail must enclose a self-addressed return envelope (preferably by Platinum Post or courier services).  It is the responsibility of the applicants to retain the tracking numbers of the return envelope. The Embassy is not liable for the delays or loss of any documents sent by mail. Please note that we do not provide information on delivery status, and recommend you check the status with the Australia Post.
  8. Please ensure all supporting documents are on an A4 size paper and do not staple or use a paper clip in your document bundle.
  9. The Embassy may request an applicant to provide additional supporting documents if needed.

  1. The Limited Stay Visa issued by the Embassy is a single entry visa. Upon arrival in Indonesia, you must attend to the nearest immigration office within 7 days to apply for the Temporary Stay Permit (KITAS). The holders of KITAS  may exit and re-enter Indonesia multiple times by applying for an exit permit at the nearest Immigration Office.

Application by mail must enclose a self-addressed return envelope (preferably by Express Post Platinum Post or courier services).  It is the responsibility of the applicants to retain the tracking numbers of the return envelope.   2. Only after the Embassy has received a completed visa application form, can the Embassy start with the visa issuance process. The visa process will take approximately 8 - 10 working days from the date of acceptance of the document by the Embassy. The process may take longer when the application requires approval/ authorization from relevant authorities in Indonesia. An Indonesia visa will be issued to an applicant, when all of the requirements have been met and if the issuance is considered to be appropriate.

Work and Holiday Visa

{tab Purpose}

  1. The Work and Holiday Visa is designed to create opportunities for young people to engage in social and cultural exchange between Indonesia and Australia. The visa is now available for 1000 Australians and 1000 Indonesians. 
  2. The visa is mainly for tourist purposes, which also allows the holders to do some work and study. Visa must not be used to work for more than six months or to study more than four months. Working as a language teacher is only permitted in formal education institution, or other higher education.
  3. To be eligible for this visa:
  • applicants must be between 18-30 years old (on the date of complete application received)
  • not in possession of another Indonesian visa
  • have not previously taken part in the work and holiday program
  • and have no dependent or children who will be joining the visit

  1. Complete and signed application form.
  2. Passport with a minimum validity of 18 months.
  3. Evidence of tertiary qualifications, or successful completion of at least two years of undergraduate university study.
  4. Evidence that you have good Indonesian (functional Indonesian language skills).
  5. Recommendation letter from Department of Home Affairs.
  6. Medical certificate from doctor.
  7. Evidence of sufficient funds to cover living expenses during the period of initial stay in Indonesia (minimum A$ 5,000).
  8. Visa fee is TBA for application and $21 for the approval letter, per 1 July 2019. Payment can be made by EFPTOS or credit card at the Indonesian Embassy. For application by mail, payment must be made by Money Order payable to “the Indonesian Embassy”. Cash or cheque will not be accepted.
  9. Application by mail must enclose a self-addressed return envelope (preferably by Platinum Post or courier services).   1. The process will take min 4 (four) weeks after all requirements are deemed complete and approved by the Indonesian Authority in Jakarta.
  2. Applicants can lodge application at all Indonesian Missions in Australia (Indonesian Embassy in Canberra, Indonesian Consulate General in Sydney, Indonesian Consulate General in Melbourne, Indonesian Consulate General in Perth, Indonesian Consulate in Darwin). Please visit their websites for further information.
  3. Right after entering Indonesia, the visa holder shall pay in local currency IDR 1.000.000,- for the limited stay permit (ITAS), IDR 700.000,- for the multiple exit permit (MREP) and IDR 50.000,- for biometric photograph at the arrival airport in Indonesia. 1 A$ is around 10.000 IDR.
  4. Holders of Work and Holiday Visa can only enter Indonesia through 6 (six) designated Airports in Indonesia, namely:
  • Soekarno-Hatta, Jakarta; 
  • Ngurah Rai, Bali;
  • AdiSucipto, Yogyakarta;
  • Tritunas Semesta, Batam;
  • Polonia, Medan; and
  • Sam Ratulangi, Manado

Calling Visa

Pursuant to the Decree of Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia No. M.HH-02.GR.01.06 year 2017, Nationals of the following countries requires authorization from the Indonesian Immigration Head Office prior to the issuance of a visa:

  1. Afghanistan
  2. Guinea
  3. Israel
  4. Liberia
  5. Nigeria
  6. North Korea
  7. Somalia

are advised to apply for an Electronic Visa (E-Visa) before travelling to Indonesia. The E-visa must be applied online through the following address https://visa-online.imigrasi.go.id/.

Journalist and Filmmaking Visa

This visa is for those visiting Indonesia:

  • to conduct journalist work (interviews, news coverage, etc)

  • to be stationed as a foreign correspondent for a period of time

  • for making film/movies

{tab Requirements}

  1. A completed and signed application form.

  2. One recent coloured passport sized photograph glued to the front page of the application form. Please do not send the photograph loose.

  3. A passport with at least 6 months’ validity from the date of entry into Indonesia and has at least 3 blank pages for visa.

  4. Note: For those with dual citizenship, please attach a copy of your other passport.

  5. For a foreign correspondent bringing family, please include passports and photographs of the family members.

  6. A sponsor letter from the media company (e.g. editor) to the Indonesian Embassy.

         For a journalist covering news: the letter should state the purpose of the journalist visit, places to be visited, the date/schedule of the visit;

         For foreign correspondents to be posted in Indonesia: the letter should state the purpose of employment, employment period,

         temporary/ permanent address of the correspondent in Indonesia.

         For film making:  the letter should state the purpose of the visit, places to be visited, the date/schedule of the visit;

  1. A brief overview of the profile of the media company.

  2. List of crews travelling and their respective positions.

  3. List of equipment (if any, please include details such as quantity, weight, value, and a description of the equipment).

  4. For news coverage, please include name, address, and contact number of local partner/media colleague in Indonesia.

  5. For film making, please include name, address, and contact number of local partner/fixer in Indonesia.

  6. List of interviewees or resource persons in Indonesia.

  7. A summary of the intended project/activities(s) to be undertaken in Indonesia (include details such as timetable, locations, and expected duration of stay).

  8. Film making, please provide the synopsis or background information about the story/documentation.

  9. Statement letter stating:

  • an agreement to obey all relevant national and local regulations in Indonesia, including those related to holy places, national parks, and other places to be visited

  • for film making, an agreement to submit one copy of the movie to the Indonesian Embassy after completion of the project

   16. A recent sample of works on Indonesia (if any).

   17. A copy of two-way/ingoing and outgoing tickets.

    18. Please ensure all supporting documents are on an A4 size paper and do not staple or use a paper clip in your document bundle.

  19. Non-refundable visa fee of AU$ 80 and telex fee AU$21 per 1 July 2019 paid by EFTPOS or Money Order payable to “the Indonesian Embassy” upon the approval of the Directorate General of Immigration in Jakarta. Cash or cheque will not be accepted.

  4. If the visa is granted, in addition to the visa attached to the passport you will receive a Notification Letter (in English and Bahasa Indonesia) from the Embassy.

  5. Journalist must always bring the letter while conducting their work in Indonesia.

  6. Note: Journalists are no longer required to collect a Journalist ID Card at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

  7. For film making, it is required to collect a Production Permit Letter (Surat Izin Produksi) at the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM):
